Roadmap
What GitGhost is building next for visual Git, AI-assisted reviews, agents, and serious developer workflows.
Product Vision
GitGhost is being built as a local-first visual Git client for developers who need clarity before executing important Git operations.
The roadmap focuses on making repository state easier to understand, reducing friction around advanced workflows, and adding AI only where it makes reviewing and shipping code more controlled.
Foundation
NowThe foundation phase is focused on the core desktop experience and reliable local repository inspection.
- Open and inspect local Git repositories.
- Visualize commits, branches, tags, and history.
- Review staged and unstaged file changes.
- Create commits with a clear review flow.
- Keep repository content local by default.
Visual Git Workflows
NowGitGhost should make branch topology and repository state easy to scan before a developer takes action.
- Interactive branch graph navigation.
- Branch, commit, stash, and tag detail panels.
- Fast checkout flows for branches and commits.
- Detached HEAD awareness and recovery guidance.
- Clear indicators for dirty state and pending work.
Advanced Git Operations
NextThe next phase expands GitGhost into workflows that developers usually avoid because they are difficult to reason about from the terminal alone.
- Worktree creation, switching, and cleanup.
- Visual conflict review and resolution flows.
- Stash inspection, apply, pop, and cleanup actions.
- Merge and rebase previews before execution.
- Safer branch deletion and recovery prompts.
AI Workflows
NextAI features are planned as optional tools that help developers review context faster while keeping final control with the person writing the code.
- Commit message suggestions from staged changes.
- Branch summaries for current work in progress.
- AI-assisted code review on diffs and branches.
- Suggested explanations for complex changes.
- Provider selection for external or local models.
Agents
LaterAgent features will focus on making automated work visible, reviewable, and constrained by explicit developer approval.
- Custom repository agents for repeatable tasks.
- Branch-scoped agent execution.
- Reviewable diffs before accepting generated work.
- Shared rules for how agents operate in a repository.
- Activity history for agent actions and decisions.
Teams and Enterprise
LaterTeam features are planned for companies that need consistent Git workflows, shared automation, and better control over AI usage.
- Multiple users under one workspace or license.
- Shared agents, rules, and review conventions.
- Centralized billing and license management.
- Priority support for teams and organizations.
- Security review support for enterprise adoption.
Platform Support
LaterGitGhost is designed as a desktop application. Initial support may focus on macOS while the product stabilizes.
Additional platforms will be evaluated based on demand, product maturity, and the ability to deliver a native-quality Git workflow without compromising reliability.
Feedback
Roadmap priorities may change based on developer feedback, technical constraints, and what improves daily Git workflows the most.
